Intro to Buddhist Meditation Course

With a balance between theory and practice, this is an exciting introductory dive into the world of Buddhist meditation.
Together we will explore the history and evolution of Buddhist practice through a grounded and progressive sequence of meditation exercises. We will understand how, from a basis of virtue, one can begin to calm the mind and use it to systematically investigate reality.
We will awaken our innate sense of mindfulness through group activities, discussions, and movement- based practices. Ultimately, we will consolidate our understanding through seated meditation and explore the power of concentration (anapanasati), loving-kindness (metta), and insight practices (vipassana).
Each session offers participants a chance to connect with the community and together develop a felt sense of the magic of the present moment and the nature of mind. Through shared experiences, solid conceptual grounding, and a suite of home-practice techniques, participants will come to experientially understand that joy and wellbeing can be cultivated through discipline and commitment. Classes will consist of a lecture-style component in the beginning followed by a guided practice in the second half of class.
Everyone will receive a printed resource manual along with a workbook to complete weekly reflections and practice logs.
This 6-week beginner course is suitable for all levels – however students with PTSD or psychiatric conditions should consult their physician before attending.

Restorative Yoga & Sound Vibrational healing fundraiser
This Sound Vibrational Healing Workshop is a collaboration between Studio co-owner Amanda Scouller and Shelley Weiler. This soothing and transformative experience includes yin/restorative yoga guided by Amanda and the healing vibrations of singing bowls and intentional sound intuitively facilitated by Shelley. This event will be by donation and all proceeds will go to our community member and loved teacher Angela, for her young son Oliver.

With a balance between structure and spontaneity, we love to encourage our older students to try new elements of yoga. We do so by incorporating a variety of popular and stimulating activities using discussions, co-operative games, partner and group work. In addition, a strong focus is placed on stress-reduction, mindfulness and celebrating uniqueness. Building trust, positive relationships (with self and others), self-confidence, respect, gratitude and compassion are fundamental themes weaved into our programming.
Our 6-week Tween/Teen yoga series is designed to help build the foundation for young adults to live a healthy lifestyle – both mentally and physically. Each class offers participants an opportunity to connect with themselves and others in a supportive, non-judgmental, non-competitive environment, as we work towards building confidence, self-esteem and self-regulation.
We aim to provide effective tools and techniques that enable students not only cope and navigate the various pressures and challenges faced by today’s youth. Over the series, students will learn and experiment with fundamental yoga postures to develop and refine several important skills, including balance, flexibility, strength, body awareness, focus and mindfulness.
Suitable for all levels, each class will include a fun mix of co-operative games, acrobatics, discussions and strong emphasis on learning how they can reduce stress though relaxation, meditation and breath work.

Brain Spa
BrainSpa starts with a 15 minute gentle flowing movement practice to get your body, mind and soul ready for a 1 hour guided meditation followed by a 15 minute debrief where students have the option to discuss their experiences in the class. The one hour guided meditation is based on the combination of Ericksonian Hypnosis and Yogic imagery that was in the original class. If you are feeling the stress of our current world this class is for you. It is intended to bring your body and mind into a relaxed healing state. We all need more of that these days.

Guest Instructor: Liza Ingram. Liza has been a hypnotist since 2009 and taught BrainSpa and CoreCrush at Moksha Yoga Peterborough for 8 years before it’s transformation into Peterborough Yoga Wellness Centre. She is a mom, musician, writer, pole dancer and artist as well.
